A Message From the Superintendent of Schools on

District Emergency Preparedness

Dear Parent/Guardian:
Welcome back to another exciting school year.  Our entire district has been quite busy with the final phases of our district reconfiguration.  We have updated our district emergency plans to reflect these changes. We will continue with the following operational procedures to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

  • Daily contact with the Franklin Township Police Department to be kept abreast of the nation’s alert status.
  • Increased police patrols at all schools.
  • Staff, students, and parents have been asked to be vigilant, maintain a heightened sense of awareness and use common sense.
All principals have emergency procedures in place to address any unforeseen difficulties.
  • Staff and students have been familiarized with our emergency lockdown and evacuation procedures.
If necessary, during a crisis situation students may be released to parents/guardians if and when it can be done in a secure manner.  You will need proper identification to have a student released to you.
  • We have extended security through our after-school C.A.R.E. Program.
Communication with schools may be difficult.  Please be aware that the district will use the following means of communication to alert parents/guardians of any emergency actions we are taking:
                a)      Telephone voice messaging (732-873-2400 ext. 555)
                b)      District Cable TV Station (Channel 14)
                c)      District web page (www.franklinboe.org)
                d)      Local radio stations (New Jersey 101.5 FM, 98.3 FM, 1450 AM)

If for safety or health reasons it becomes necessary to remove students from the school setting to another location, every effort to notify parents/guardians will be made.
Hopefully, we will never have to use these procedures, but “one who does not plan, plans to fail.”
