Dear Parents/Guardians of Franklin Middle School Students:

Hello!  I would like to provide clear communication in regard to transportation to and from Franklin Middle School for our 7^th and 8^th grade students.

The State of New Jersey has made a determination that any student within a two-mile radius of the school is classified as a “walking student.”  The transportation department is responsible for calculating the most direct route by way of the roadways in order to determine this distance.

Currently, we have 16 busses bringing students to the school in the morning.  At 4pm there are four busses to transport students home from after school activities.  Any student, (whether a bus student or a walking student) is permitted to ride the 4 PM bus.  Any student that has remained after school for a viable, school sponsored program and has received a bus pass from school personnel can board a bus.

The 4pm bus routes are general neighborhood drops and might not be the same location as the morning pick-up location.  Bus routes are available at the school and safety officers assist the students in boarding the correct bus in order to be dropped off in the general vicinity of student residences.

Students are required to have a current and valid student ID in order to board the busses at 2:30 or 4pm.  If a student forgets to bring an ID to school we make every effort to have them call home before the end of the school day so that a parent/guardian can bring the ID to school.  Every student has been given one ID to wear everyday and we recommend purchasing one extra ID to leave in school.  There is a $5.00 replacement cost to obtain an additional student ID.

School ID’s are required to be worn each and every day at Franklin Middle School.  Students need to identify themselves to any staff member that ask for their name, they need an ID to check out library books, to purchase lunch, and to attend any school sponsored field trip or after school sponsored activity.

I hope that has provided useful information to you.  Please review this information with your child and remind them to bring their ID to school every day.  The Franklin Middle School administration will continue to work with the students each day by reminding them of the importance of having student identification.
