Sixteen
students from the graduating class of 2004 were named as recipients of the
Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar Award. Over 18,000 names in the State of New Jersey were submitted for consideration by The Higher
Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA).
This is an independent agency of the State of New Jersey, which administers the Garden State Scholarship
Program that includes both the Edward J. Bloustein
Award and the Urban Scholar Award. Each
year more than 7,000 students statewide receive scholarships in recognition of
their high level of academic achievement.
Students may use these awards to continue their education at New Jersey institutions of higher education.
A
list of students were submitted by their High School Guidance Counselors and
the following students represent those chosen in Franklin Township: Jeremy Becker, Eric Berg,
Dillon Black, Allison Dyckman, Kunal
Gorriah, Robert Gross, Tristen
Hohman, Orion Kanarek,
David Katusa, Kashif Layne,
Angelino Maqboul, Hillary Marcovici,
Dewang Patel, Alexansers Paupe, Ross Sacks, Ashley Weber. To be eligible for the Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholars award, the students must
place in the top 10% of their classes, have a minimum combined SAT score of
1260, or are ranked first, second or third in their class as of the end of
their junior year.
The
annual value of the Distinguished Scholar Award is determined by the amount
appropriated for this program, without regard to financial need. The students who accept this award must
enroll full time at a New Jersey College or University, and maintain satisfactory academic
progress. The reward is renewable
dependent on future state appropriations.
Congratulations
not only to the students who received this award, but also to all students in
the Franklin Township Public School System.
