For the
first time in many years, the Franklin High School Dive Team took home a First
Place Trophy that was won at the 27th Annual Diving Invitational
held at North
Brunswick High School on January 10th 2004. The team was
made up of 7 students from ninth through eleventh grade. This was the first invitational competition
of the diving season, which continues through March.
Al Raya, a teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School, coaches the team.
For the past few years, there has been a shortage of students interested
in diving. The team grew from 3 members
last year, to 7 this year. Both the
coach and the athletes are dedicated to making the team award winning by the
end of the season, and they are off to a great start.
In
addition to the first place team trophy, Kiara Vacchio took home a 5th place medal for the
individual girls competition. Mark Nerys placed 2nd,
Scott King placed 5th and Bryan Glenn placed 6th for the
boy’s individual competition.
