Grades 5-6 at Sampson G. Smith School Students at all levels receive a double block of ESL (LAL replacement) unless they are Spanish speakers.  In that case, students receive bilingual LAL plus one ESL period a day.

Students who qualify for bilingual services (level 1 & 2 Spanish speakers) receive Math in a bilingual setting in addition to their bilingual LAL class.

Grades 7-8 at Franklin Middle School: Students at all levels receive a double block of ESL  as their Language Arts replacement class.  Additionally, in order to support the content areas, ESL teachers co-teach Science and Social Studies classes with content specialists for students at levels 1-2.

Students who qualify for bilingual services (level 1 & 2 Spanish speakers) receive Math in a bilingual setting.

At both schools:  Students are scheduled within teams which "house" English Language Learners.  Teachers in these teams are trained in  Sheltered Instruction methodologies.
