Important Information About Phase IV of Remote Learning
Phase IV of Remote Learning at FTPS will consist of 12 instructional days from Monday, May 18 - Wednesday, June 3, 2020
Based Upon Your Input, Changes Made in Phase III Will Continue, With Some Additional Supports
Elementary assignments in our Phase IV Remote Learning Modules continue to be organized by day instead of by subject.
Middle School and High School assignments remain orgainized by subject area, but are further organized by day as well.
The workload in Phase IV will remain consistent with Phase III.
Our teachers war still moving toward consistency in computer applications. Our instructional technology department offers resources on various applications as well as the opportunity to ask a specific question.
Teachers have responded and are providing detailed directions on the submission of work. Now resources, instructions and most assignments can be translated.
In this Phase, all assignments are in a digital format, even more assignments will be editable within the application.
More teachers are utilizing video conferencing. While we cannot mandate that students remotely participate in lessons, as a group, at a certain time during remote learning due to the various challenges that our families experience, our teachers have begun to reach out to their classes to try to schedule group meetings with as many students as possible to "check-in". If you wish and have not already done so, please log onto the Genesis Parent Portal and complete the Consent for Video Participation Form to ensure full participation by your child in these group meetings.
Restrictions on access to videos have been adjusted to allow access to more educational videos via distirict owned devices.
Student Accountability Assessment in Phase IV
Student accountabilty in Phase IV will continue as introduced in Phase III. Teachers at the secondary level will be submitting grades (√-; √; √+) as introduced in our presentation on April 20, 2020. Elementary grade level teachers will be following a rubric, also found in the presentation, and providing feedback to families. If you have any questions about your individual child's progress, please reach out to his/her teacher or your child's Principal.
Social Emotional Support
Restrictions on leaving your home and maintaining social distancing, as well as concerns about Covid-19, can cause feelings of islolation and sadness in our students. We are looking to provide further social/emotional support for our families through a partnership with Rutgers Behavioral Health. More information on this organization and the resources that they can provide will be forthcoming.
A Look Ahead - Considerations for the Remainder of the School Year
Some of our student families and staff have suggested including a day in our remote learning phase that is less academically structured. These days might be used for virtual field trips or other "fun" activities and may also give students the chance to "catch-up" on assignments which they have not completed.
Also student families and staff have expressed an interest in on-line training videos to assist in navigating the applications that our students are using and we have created a Remote Learning Family Support Site.
These suggestions are being considered for the next phase of remote learning.
Continued Feedback and Communication
Early in Phase IV we will create and advertise a survey to seek feedback on Phase IV. If you have a specific question about your child or his/her work or grades please contact his/her teacher or Principal. If you have a general question, please check out Frequently Asked Questions, updated on May 21, 2020 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
