  • Juneteenth Recognition

    Posted by:

    During the week of June 14, the district will recognize Juneteenth.

    Message from Dr. Daniel Loughran on Juneteenth

    Board of Education Resolution recognizing Junetheenth at their meeting on May 27, 2021.

    Whereas, Juneteenth Independence Day is a nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States; and

    Whereas, Juneteenth Independence Day began as a holiday in the State of Texas and is now celebrated by 47 states across the nation as a special day of observance in recognition of the emancipation of all slaves in the United States; and

    Whereas, Juneteenth emphasizes the importance of teaching about our nation's past, helping us to realize what must be done in the future to promote equity and equality within our society;

    Now, therefore be it resolved, the Board of Education of Franklin Township in Somerset, New Jersey recognizes June 19, 2021 as Juneteenth and encourages all Franklin Township Public School staff and students to engage in activities highlighting the significance of Juneteenth Independence Day during the week leading up to the Juneteenth celebration.
