STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
As we are approaching the end of an amazing summer, we are eagerly awaiting the start of a new and exciting 2017-2018 school year. As always, Franklin High School is committed to providing excellent educational opportunities for every student and developing every student to his/her highest potential. However, there are times when a student’s personal or family situation may interfere with his/her ability to perform to their highest potential. Therefore, we would like to take a moment to share some information about our STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. During the 2017-2018 school year Student Assistance Coordinators, Mrs. Stacy M. Hale and Mr. Jason Marchitto will be working closely together coordinating and continuously developing innovative individual/ group counseling programs for those students who can benefit from our program. In addition, we have included new programs and prevention/intervention initiatives that are currently in alliance with Franklin High School Intervention and Referral Services, NJDOE Formal Intervention Process and all Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying legislations mandated by the State of New Jersey.
The Franklin High School Student Assistance Program has its roots in our nations' Safe and Drug Free Schools Initiative. Our district operates in accordance with New Jersey’s policies and regulations to insure the safety of our students and has established a comprehensive substance abuse prevention intervention and treatment referral program.
In accordance with NJSA 18: 40A 10-11 our Formal Intervention Procedure is as follows:
“When it shall appear to any teaching staff member, school nurse or other educational personnel that a pupil “may be under the influence of substances” as defined, the employee shall report the matter as soon as possible to the school nurse, the Substance Awareness Coordinator and the principal. The principal shall immediately notify the parents and arrange for an immediate examination of the pupil including an alcohol/drug screening.”
We are a team of New Jersey State licensed professional counselors who work in conjunction with our entire school community including local community agencies to offer a wide range of prevention/education programs and services. Those services are designed to address the common needs and concerns faced by our students today. Some of these concerns include problems associated with anger, depression, suicide related issues, teen pregnancy, substance use, bullying/harassment and family problems. Students can seek assistance on their own or be referred by any member of our school community. All services are strictly confidential.
