HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION AND BULLYING POLICY REVIEW
Recent changes in the law concerning Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying have made it necessary for the Franklin Township Board of Education to revise its Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Policy.
New requirements state that the policy must be revised and submitted to the County Superintendent by September 1, 2011. The law requires that the policy be adopted through a process that includes parents, students and other community members.
We are happy to report that our community workshop on August 3, 2011 was successful. Approximately 30 individuals attended, including parents, students, administrators, teachers and Board of Education Members. A brief power point presentation was shown on the changes to the policy. This was followed by a chance for the community members to share comments and questions. Mr. Orvyl Wilson, Director of School Management and Student Advocacy and Mrs. Sharon Mc Neil, District Positive Behavioral Specialist were on hand to respond. Afterward, community members were invited to submit further comments in writing or via the on line comment survey.
Please note that the comment survey will remain "live" until August 18, 2011 - a week before the next Board of Education Meeting. At that meeting there will be a public hearing on the changes to the policy.
The power point presentation which was shown at the workshop is now attached to this page. The draft of the revised policy is also attached to this page and will be updated if there are any changes made before the Board of Education meeting on August 25, 2011.
