2011 New Jersey State Assessment Presentation
On Tuesday, November 29, 2011, a Special Meeting of the Franklin Township Board of Education was held in the cafeteria of Franklin High School at 7:30 pm.
The purpose of this meeting was to present to the Board and to the public, the New Jersey State Assessment results for the district from the 2010-2011 school year. The presentation of these results is required by No Child Left Behind. Based on those results, five of the schools in the district made Adequate Yearly Progress [AYP] as defined by the NJ State Department of Education. The remaining schools are in a "status", meaning that they are defined as in “Early Warning” or as a "School in Need of Improvement".
Ms. Eveny Pagan, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction conducted the presentation that evening with the assistance of Ms. Carolyn Armstrong, Supervisor of Secondary Language Arts Literacy, Ms. Nubeja Allen, Supervisor of Mathematics, Dr. Karen Schubert-Ramirez, Supervisor of Elementary Language Arts Literacy and Dr. John Roberts, Director of Science K-12. These administrators reviewed the state test results as well as results from district based common assessments. Details were provided about the successes the district has had this past year as well as the challenges we continue to face. Finally, programmatic and instructional initiatives were presented so that the Board of Education members and the members of the public in attendance could see the district's "next steps" to increase student achievement.
The comprehensive presentation lasted approximately 3 hours and included questions from the Board of Education and the public. This meeting will begin to air on district television shortly. Additional, school specific presentations will be held at each school beginning in January. There are also short presentations scheduled for upcoming Board of Education Meetings on Franklin High School graduation data; Specialized Populations; Title 1 Unified Plans and PARCC Assessments.
