What is a Student Assistance Coordinator?
The New Jersey Statute mandates that each school district provide education, intervention, and counseling services for all students involved in substance abuse and family crisis situations. A Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) provides in-school counseling services for children who have immediate family members that are suffering from Drug/Alcohol abuse. The Franklin Township Publis Schools SAC assists and counsels students who are in crisis and acts as a referral agent for all students and their family.
The SAC also conducts substance abuse prevention programs for students who are informed of the dangers of drugs/alcohol and how to avoid the peer pressures of substance abuse. Confidential assessments and community referral services are provided for those students and their families who need assistance in all areas of social services.
