     SCHOOL BUDGET 2012 -2013

     

    The purpose of this web page is to provide information on the 2012 -2013 Proposed School Budget and to provide an avenue for the public to submit comments on the budget.


    PROCESS AND TIMELINE

     

    The Franklin Township Board of Education recently voted to move the school board election to November at the time of the general election.  Consequently, the Board is required to keep the vote for school board candidates and any ballot question(s) exceeding the 2% tax levy cap in November for the next four years.  With the exception of adjustments, the proposed budget must not exceed 2% of the tax levy. Any amount in excess of 2% would be held for a question on the November ballot and would be voted on by the public.

    While the public will no longer vote on the school budget in April, the Board is still required to have a public hearing and adopt the budget in March for approval by the Somerset Executive County Superintendent of Schools. 

     

    On March 1, 2012 there was a Special Meeting of the Franklin Township Board of Education at which time Superintendent Edward Seto and Assistant Superintendent for Business/Board Secretary, John Calavano presented the preliminary budget.  A copy of that presentation is available to the left of this page.

     

    Also located to the left of this page are other documents containing details of the preliminary budget.  A tax calculator will be posted shortly so that community members can determine their tax assessment under the proposed budget. 

     

    During the month of March, the Finance Committee will meet with Administration to review the budget in detail.  The final proposed budget will be submitted to the full Board and the public at a public hearing on March 29, 2012 in the Franklin Middle School Auditorium at 7:30 pm.

    Part of the Finance Committee's review process will be to read comments and suggestions submitted by the public.  Those comments and suggestions on the budget may be submitted via a comment box at the District Administrative Offices, 1755 Amwell Road, Somerset or by clicking this link  https://www.franklinboe.org//cms/module/selectsurvey/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=211  Comments may be submitted up until March 29, 2012.
