The role of a sibling in the life of a person with an intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD) is as complex as it is meaningful. Siblings play a key role in the care and social development of their brother or sister with I/DD. However, despite the important and life-long role siblings play, brothers and sisters are often overlooked as needing support themselves. This presentation will discuss the sibling experience, common feelings, and how to best support and address the needs of siblings.
The Arc of NJ has Sibling Support Groups and is a great resource to find the help that they need for your young children, teens and into adulthood.
